what is hope
In times like these it’s so important to save your mind. How you take in the current moment will be how you come out of it. I anchor my mind in hope, not in a blind optimistic everything-is-going-to-be-all-right sort of hope because to me, that’s not really hope at all. It will crumble under the weight of sorrow and fear.
To me, hope is embracing uncertainty. Not denying the current realities, but facing them with strength and wonder. Hope is a labor, but a fruitful one. It’s a place where I can see the world as it is but also as it could be. It’s a place where I go to shake off the spirit of heaviness that so often comes in troubling times. Hope is a place where we can hold ourselves, our hearts and each other in the dark and find the joy in the struggle. Hope is being content in the unknowable. A place where I can go to feel at home in the world regardless of the circumstances. Hope is where the light leaks in. A place where I can be. The only place I truly know how to exist.
