I love you's in the dark

When Perry and I stayed the night at my brother’s apartment we slept on couches across the room from each other. I put in my earplugs because the slightest sound wakes me up (if I can fall asleep in the first place) and I closed my eyes. Behind my eyelids I saw a flashing white light. I ignored it for a moment assuming maybe someone had turned on a bathroom light or something. But it kept flashing. When I opened my eyes it was Perry waving his phone in the air, bright as hell, from across the room. I took out my earplugs and sighed.
“What?” I asked.
“I love you,” he said.
“I love you too, ya freak.”
I put my earplugs back in and fell asleep smiling.

In all the years we’ve been together he has never missed saying I love you before bed. The little things. Don’t miss ‘em.
