Chablis | Burgundy | France

After a long drive from the Alsace region we entered Burgundy. The journey through the french countryside was breathtaking. Upon arrival we made our way to a fresh fruit and veg market in the center of Chablis to pick up some peaches, tomatoes, strawberries to hold us over until morning. We wandered around the cobblestone streets and took in the sights of the vineyards along the Serein river. 

That evening we stayed in the most beautiful loft among the vineyards of Préhy right outside Chablis. The woman who owned the loft didn't speak a word of English (and why should she?) so we talked with her over Google Translator. We learned she harvests apples to make spiked apple cider every fall. She was so warm and kind, offering us recommendations for the best places to go for the prettiest views. We stayed on the second floor of the loft, climbing a steep and winding staircase. In the morning, we had coffee under her skylights and took our time waking up in this sleepy country town.

Before exploring for the day we enjoyed her homemade cider. We lingered long to watch the light as it danced along the breakfast table.

We stumbled upon a lovely Farmer's Market in the center of Chablis. We ate our weight in olives and picked up some nuts and fruit for the next day's drive.

Chablis is quaint and quiet... the perfect wine town.

Au revoir Burgundy... we're off to the Rhône-Alpes.
